B737-700 Historical Value Trend History Shows Sharp Falls

The values of the older B737-700s have managed to achieve a measure of relative stability in the last few years, even as production has all but ceased. The age profile of the B737-700 is such that the majority were delivered in the first decade of production - 1997-2007 - with relative few deliveries thereafter. Soon after service entry, the events of 2001 caused a significant fall in values withy values falling by 12 percent between late 2000 and 2001. This was a much smaller decline than some other types suffered because it was so recently delivered and was therefore in use by a mainly more financially secure operators. For a time, between 2005 and 2007, values barely moved because of the improved market conditions although in real terms, taking into account inflation, values did fall slightly. The market in 2008-2009 was not so kind and values experienced a significant 30 fall with the fall continuing thereafter to a greater or lesser extent. By this time it was becoming apparent that the size of the -700 no longer matched the needs of the market. Orders were virtually nonexistent and delivery rates were low. More recently the market has stabilized although the rate of fall is still notable in percentage if not dollar terms.
