When BAE Systems Regional Aircraft closed its RJX programme nearly two years ago the rumblings in the market were tinged with shock before commentators were quietened by the market saturation arguments. One man who was not put off his stride by the news was Paul Stirling, senior vice-president, asset management. While the closure of the programme was a disappointment to the man whose team had made a significant contribution to marketing the new type, there were silver linings in the decision. For him the news also meant that, without a new BAE Systems regional aircraft in the market, his portfolio of aircraft would be safe from competition from within. "Yes we've had to get over the instability that that has caused but it's been overtaken by the general shock and trauma in the entire market," says Stirling. "We've managed to survive it well."
