AIR CHINA TO ORDER 31 BOEING AIRCRAFT, CATHAY ADDS 747-8 FREIGHTERS

Air China has agreed to buy 31 Boeing aircraft, including 20 737-800s, according to a March filing with the Hong Kong stock exchange made by the airline. In addition to the 737-800s, Air China said it has agreed to order two 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft, one 777-300ER and eight 777 freighters. The 777Fs come from Cathay Pacific Airways' order book and will be used by Air China Cargo, which is a joint venture between Air China and Cathay Pacific. Cathay has ordered three additional Boeing 747-8 freighters, bringing to 13 the number of 747-8Fs it has ordered. Eight 747-8Fs have already been delivered to the Hong Kong-based carrier. Air China has the option to swap four 737-800s for one 777-300ER.
