Sensis' Multilat Operational At Gatwick

Sensis Corporation's mul-tilateration system, Multi-static Dependent Surveillance (MDS) received approval in early September for its use at London Gatwick and is now operational. The surface surveillance system provides location and identification for enhanced safety and efficiency of aircraft operating in runway, taxiway and stand areas of the airport. Gatwick is the busiest single runway airport in the world and the second largest airport in the UK. Sensis provides MDS at 50 airports worldwide as a critical component of a complete Advanced - Surface Movement Guidance and Control (A-SMGCS) product. Additionally, Sensis multilateration is being used for Wide Area Surveillance in the US, Canada, Austria and Australia. Tony Lo Brutto, vice president and general manager of Sensis Air Traffic Systems said this "provides Gatwick with the reliable, accurate surveillance needed to ensure that their single runway is always in operation. Also, the flexibility to expand MDS or easily adopt ADS-B at the appropriate time is built in to the system's architecture."
