CONNECTICUT CORSAIR, an enterprise formed to manufacture a Chance Vought F4U-4 Corsair largely from scratch ("Connecticut's State Warbird, Feb./Mar. 2010), ran a Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major engine, with its massive Hamilton Standard Hydromatic propeller, at the Wings & Wheels Airshow last May in Stratford, Connecticut. Though the F4U used a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp, the working display of the R-4360, the largest production piston engine, serves as a training aid for Connecticut Corsair's engineering and aircraft mechanic interns and as a testbed for overhauled parts. Reports Craig McBurney, Connecticut Corsair founder, "We are working away on reverse engineering the spar and center section, and now the cockpit and fuselage."
