Michael zolensky starred in "The Curator of Cosmic Dust" in the April/ May 1987 issue, noting: "Our entire collection of cosmic dust would probably fit on the head of a pin." At that time, he held the title in the headline at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. A california man charged with pointing a laser at a police helicopter in 2012 was sentenced to 14 years in prison last March ("The Laser Threat," Dec. 2013/Jan. 2014). Although the charge of interfering with the operation of an aircraft carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, Sergio Rodriguez's 14-year sentence is the most severe to date. Rodriguez and his girlfriend, Jennifer Coleman, were apprehended after shining a green laser at a police helicopter that was responding to a medevac helicopter that had reported a laser strike near Fresno Yosemite airport. Coleman could be sentenced to five years. Rodriguez's lawyers plan to appeal.
