FOREST-SINKS OFFER LONG TERM PROTECTION

NEW tree plantings offer one of the most certain ways farmers and landholders can offset greenhouse gas emissions and gain associated benefits, however, new CSIRO research shows the uptake of carbon forestry over the next decade will be influenced by a wide range of factors. The potential for new tree plantings to make a modest contribution to emissions reduction in the long term but only a small impact by 2020 is highlighted in CSIRO's study, Opportunities for carbon forestry in Australia: Economic assessment and constraints to implementation.
