On July 22, 2002 (67 FR 47894―47949), EPA proposed maximum achievable control technology (MACT) standards for two new industry source categories: brick and structural clay products (BSCP) manufacturing and clay ceramics manufacturing. Originally treated as the single source category listed as clay products manufacturing, EPA proposes to regulate the source categories separately, given their variability in processes, emissions, control options, and finished products. Following rule promulgation, the BSCP and clay ceramics manufacturing rules will be codified as 40 CFR Sub-parts JJJJJ and KKKKK, respectively. The proposed rule does not establish MACT standards for the clay minerals processing or lightweight aggregate manufacturing industries, and EPA no longer plans to issue MACT standards for these source categories.
