Final Emission Standards Issued for Area Source Iron and Steel Foundries

On January 2, 2008 (73 FR 226-265), EPA issued final emission standards for area source iron and steel foundries. Area sources are facilities with the potential to emit < 10 tons per year (tpy) of any single hazardous air pollutant (HAP), or < 25 tpy of any combination of HAPs. EPA estimates that 427 area source iron and steel foundries will be impacted by the final rule. When fully implemented, the final rule is expected to reduce emissions of metal HAPs by 32 tons per year (tpy). In addition, the final standards for area source iron and steel foundries are expected to reduce emissions of organic HAPs by about 32 tpy.
