Ukraine Donates Helicopters to UN

The Ukraine has contributed four Mil Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters to the United Nations' Mission in the Congo (MONUSCO) and based them in the east of the country. Ukraine has also sent a contingent of military personnel to serve with MONUSCO. "Ukraine's contribution will help improve the mission's ability to protect the civilian population in areas where they are threatened by the activities of foreign and national armed groups," said Herve Ladsous, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, on March 7. MONUSCO is one of the UN's most challenging missions and the recent shortage of military helicopters has made its work more difficult.
