Second Batch of F-16s Requested by Iraq

Iraq has requested the sale of a second batch of 18 Lockheed Martin F-16IQ Fighting Falcons. In addition to the aircraft a large package of weapons and associated equipment was included in the proposed Foreign Military Sale, which is estimated to be worth up to $2.3 billion. Details of the request were forwarded to the US Congress by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency on December 12, 2011. Air-to-air weapons include 100 AIM-9L/M-8/9 Sidewinders and 150 AIM-7M-Fl/H Sparrows.
