Colonel Steen Ulrich, Commander of the Danish Helicopter Wing Karup, recently revealed some details of the selection of the Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk by Denmark. The helicopter was announced as the replacement for the Westland Lynx Mk90B on November 21, 2012, in preference to the AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat. He said: "Our decision to buy the Seahawk over Wildcat was purely a commercial selection. It was more down to economics, off sets, contracts and risk analysis. Both aircraft were more or less equal on most parameters. Each had advantages in different areas. The big difference in terms of the risk was that the Americans have many operational Seahawks and the Wildcat is still in development and therefore we would [have been] a launch customer. This was a deciding factor for the decision-makers. We are getting nine aircraft and the number was nine no matter what we bought.
