Two more Firehawks

UNITED ROTORCRAFT has delivered two HH-60L Firehawk helicopters to Ventura County Air Unit in California.The helicopters have a 1,000gal belly-mounted water tank and a retractable snorkel able to refill the tank in under one minute. They have extended landing gear to accommodate the tank and can transport up to ten equipped ground firefighters to the fire line and rescue firefighters and civilians.According to United Rotorcraft, the Firehawks can carry approximately three times as much water as Ventura County's other firefighting helicopters, the Bell HH-1H, UH-1H, Bell 205B, Bell 212 and Bell 206 Long Ranger, while travelling at up to 130kts.Firehawks can also perform search and rescue missions, medical evacuation and carry cargo either internally or as an external load. They have a 600lb BF Goodrich external rescue hoist for rescues up to 300ft below the aircraft, a 9,000lb cargo hook with a load cell system, forward recognition lights,and a high intensity searchlight, United Rotorcraft installed tactical, communication and navigation systems to Ventura County Air Unit specifications: dual Garmin 750s and electronic flight instrumentation, a Technisonic TDFM 9600 all-band radio, a moving map, forward-looking infrared and a TrakkaBeam nose-mounted searchlight.
