THE REPUBLIC of Korea Marines Corps (ROKMC) is to receive an indigenous attack helicopter.South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that the defence project promotion committee has approved the new rotorcraft as part of a wider defence acquisition programme that will also see the purchasing of upgraded transport aircraft and submarines.The locally-built attack helicopter is likely to be based on an MUH-1 Marineon, the marine variant of the KUH-1 Surion utility helicopter. Costing 1.6 trillion Korean won ($1.4 billion), the programme will run from this year until 2031, Yonhap said.
