One of the most significant events in military aviation last year happened at the very end of 2020, with the commissioning of the first new-generation Sukhoi Su-57 fighter in late December. At the time of writing, full details had yet to be released about the Su-57, but many other important milestones had been passed during the previous 12 months. The Russian aviation industry completed several large contracts to supply military aircraft, as per the State Armament Programme for 2011-2020. In the final days of November, Sukhoi's Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant (KnAAZ) in eastern Russia concluded a contract to build 50 Su-35S Flanker-E aircraft that was agreed in December 2015, when it handed over the remaining three of these fighters to the Aerospace Forces.
