A RECENTLY-retired US Marine Corps AH-1W Super Cobra has gained a new lease of life following its transfer to the US Army as a trials helicopter. Details of plans for its future use were revealed by the US Army on November 3. The helicopter is BuNo 160113 'MM-21', previously operated by Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 773 (HMLA-773) Detachment A 'Nomads' at Naval Air Station New Orleans, Louisiana. Having replaced HMLA-773's AH-1Ws with new AH-1Z Vipers, the surplus helicopter became available and, on September 17, it was transferred to Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey.
