AT 12:15 on September 9, Emirates A380-861 A6-EDE touched down at Birmingham International Airport (BIA) in the UK. Its arrival represented the conclusion of a six-month project by the airport to receive the A380 super-jumbo for the first time. Dubai-based Emirates agreed to undertake the flight - usually served by a Boeing 777-300ER - to mark the airport's 70th anniversary and the launch of its new ￡50m (US$82m) International Pier.
