CASAs For ALCAs

Five AERO Vodochody L-159s Advanced Light Combat Aircraft (ALCA) will join the Ejercito del Aire (Spanish Air Force) as part of a $170 million (￡112 million) exchange deal that will provide the Ceske Letectvo a Protivzdusna Obrana (Czech Air Force) with four CASA C-295MS. Three of the transports will be bought by the Czech Republic, while the fourth will be exchanged for the L-159s, which will comprise two L-159T1 two-seaters and three stored L-159A ALCAs. The C-295MS will replace Antonov An-26 Curls, with the first to be delivered in 2009 and the rest in 2010. The details of the deal were announced on April 20.
