Bulgaria's fighter fleet has made great strides to adopt the procedures and tactics of NATO after decades on the other side of the Iron Curtain. The aircraft are concentrated at two bases. Graf Ignatievo, also known as the 3rd Iztrebitelna Aviacionna Basa (Fighter Air Base, 3.IAB) is the Bulgarski Voenno Vazdushni Silt's (Bulgarian Air Force/BuAF) premier air base due to it having received significant investment in its facilities. Located approximately 6 miles (10km) north of Plovdiv in central Bulgaria, it is home to the country's Mikoyan MiG-21 Fishbed and MiG-29 Fulcrum air defence units.
