Hawk Proposed as New USAF Advanced Trainer

On September 8 BAE Systems launched its proposal to meet the requirements of the US Air Force's Advanced Pilot Training Family of Systems, commonly called the T-X programme. T-X has the aim of replacing the current fleet of Northrop T-38C Talons in the advanced jet pilot training role with the US Air Force, although a new plan under consideration may broaden the range of pilots destined to fly the selected aircraft (see T-X Buy May Be Expanded, November 2009, pl5) and increase the number to be acquired.
