NASA's Global Hawk Airborne

From early 2010 the National Aeronautics and SpacernAdministration (NASA) will conduct a series of six Earth observation flights over the Arctic and Pacific Ocean using a Northrop Grumman RQ-4A Global Hawk. The flights will be made in conjunction with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the UAV will carry eleven scientific packages. The unmanned air vehicle (NASA 872, AV-6, ex 00-2006) completed its first flight with the Administration on October 23 from NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards AFB, California, five months later than originally planned. The flight lasted over four hours. The UAV was transferred to NASA in December 2007, along with another RQ-4A from Advanced Concept Technology Demonstrator procurement, NASA 871 (AV-1 ex 95-2001).
