On June 8 BAE Systems and Dassault announced that the new medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned air system they are jointty developing has been named Telemos. Development plans are progressing well, according to BAE Systems. Ian Fairclough, BAE Project Director for Strategic Unmanned Air Systems, stated at a media briefing at BAE Warton on May 25 that the acquisition process for the system would likely be announced by the UK and French defence ministries in mid-summer of 2011. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the UK and France last November to develop a MALE UAS.
