The return from deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) on November 23 marked a first and a last for US naval aviation. E-2D Advanced Hawkeye-equipped Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 125 (VAW-125) 'Tiger Tails' based at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia completed the type's first deployment. In a change to the traditional four-aircraft complement of a Hawkeye squadron, VAW-125 deployed with five E-2Ds. The squadron controlled strikes over Iraq and Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve against forces of the Islamic State.
