If sequestration, debt ceiling uncertainty, and continuing budget resolutions press on into Fiscal 2014, Air Force leaders will be forced to choose between near-term sufficiency and long-term capability. They are clearly opting for the latter. Consequently, at the Air Force Association's 2013 Air & Space Conference held in National Harbor, Md., in late September, top Air Force leadership pledged to protect-as much as possible-the projects they believe will guarantee the future relevance of the Air Force: the F-35 fighter, the KC-46 tanker, and the Long-Range Strike Bomber.
