Inadequacies in the provision of information to stroke patients and their families

Observational surveys have clearly and consistently demonstrated that many stroke patients and their families express both a lack of understanding and a desire for further knowledge about the causes and con- sequences of stroke, secondary preventative measures and the availability of both statutory and informal support agencies. Although studies are limited, available evidence suggests that the methods of providing informa- tion to stroke patients and carers currently used in clinical practice are ineffective and need to be improved.
