摘要

Stroke is a leading cause of disability in older persons and an important causeof disability in younger people. Rehabilitation aims to hasten and maximize recovery from stroke by treating the disabilities caused by the stroke. It serves to restore function, teach people with disabilities new ways to perform daily activities, and provide critical education and support for the stroke survivor and family. Post-Stroke Rehabilitation, the Clinical Practice Guidelines (248 pages), is intended for the use of practitioners who are responsible for the patient's care during each phase of recovery, from the acute hospitalization through subsequent rehabilitation, and after return home or to another community residence. The booklet contains descriptions of numerous and helpful assessment instruments used by medical professionals in post-stroke rehabilitation. 'Post-Stroke Rehabilitation; Assessment, Referral, and Patient Management,' the Quick Reference Guide for Clinicians, is a condensed version of the clinical practice guideline. The 32-page booklet contains information on medical management of post-stroke patients, patient assessment for rehabilitation, rehabilitation patient referral, management of patient rehabilitation, and patient reintegration into the community once formal rehabilitation stops. 'Recovering After a Stroke', the consumer version, is a 32-page booklet devoted to providing important information to stroke survivors, families, and caregivers alike. It lists numerous organizations that can help caregivers learn more about the affects of stroke, while providing the stroke survivor with information about rehabilitative care and services. The booklet is also available in Spanish.
