Antonio Oburu mysteriously reappears at GEPetrol

According to our sources, the chief executive of Equatorial Guinean state-run firm GEPetrol, Antonio Engonga Oburu, returned to his desk in mid-March after having made a sudden disappearance in November ( AEI 805). Oburu had been President Teodoro Obiang Nguema's economic advisor, a role that saw him oversee the sale of the country's crude oil production. On the other hand, vice president Teodorin Obiang Nguema and the CEO have a very poor track record, being the main reason for the latter's departure. Oburu was involved in all deal negotiations with oil firms already active or wanting to gain a foothold in the archipelago and his absence was sorely felt within GEPetrol. Previously known to be on cold terms with oil minister Gabriel Obiang Lima, the two have reportedly become closer in recent months.
