Should the planned transition to democracy last 18 or 32months? This is the question that has been agitating themembers of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) inrecent weeks. The deadline was theoretically set at 18months by the charter presented by the TMC after thedeath of Chadian president Idriss Deby in April. It canhowever be extended once. But this is a controversialpoint which irks the international community and goesagainst the wishes of the African Union (AU).
