French firm EMD equips Jacqueville academy to tackle IEDs

The Jacqueville International Counter-Terrorism Academy (AILCT), which has just entered its operational phase after years of procrastination (AI, 13/10/21), has enlisted the services of the French company Equipements des Métiers de la Défense (EMD). EMD recently delivered simulation systems to train demining teams to neutralise improvise explosive devices (IEDs), which are a particularly widespread threat in West Africa, especially in the Sahel. Used by many armed groups that are spreading in the region, IEDs are responsible for heavy casualties, as evidenced by the explosion that cost the lives of two Burkinabe soldiers on 11 October near the border with Ivory Coast.
