Citic battles Bechtel and Indorama for giant phosphate project

Chinese-registered companies are by far the most numerous in the list of candidates for the so-called integrated phosphate project (PPI) - the exploitation of phosphate deposits in Bled El Hadba and Djebel Onk, chemical transformation in Souk Ahras, and fertiliser production in Annaba and Skikda. Asmidal, the Sonatrach subsidiary in charge of implementing the mega-project along with the Manal mining group, aims to increase the country's phosphate production from one to 10 million tonnes per year. The call for tenders was launched in May (AI, 17/06/21).
