Ex-Chamber of Mines boss, Toni Aubynn, takes aim at illegal mining

As it works out an alternative policy for managing smallscale mining in Ghana, the Africa Institute for Extractive Industries (AIEI) advocates the introduction of a new additional scale for measuring mining activity: the medium scale. This research and advocacy organisation was founded by Toni Aubynn, whose background in the extractives industry has taken him from CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines (2011-2014) to head of the Ghana Minerals Commission (2014-2017) after working for Goldfields and Tullow Oil. The AIEI believes that the two existing divisions - small scale (artisanal) and large scale (industrial) - fail to represent the entire sector.
