Four years after purchasing a 100-hectare agricultural plot about 30 km from Lubumbashi in Haut-Katanga,Simon Tuma-Waku now has ambitions to exploit it. He intends to turn the site into an industrial farm, an activity popular among many prominent Grand Katanga figures, including former president Joseph Kabila and former governor Moiese Katumbi. Tuma-Waku is looking for partners to finance the working capital, equipment and inputs needed to farm the land. For now, the idea is to produce fruits and vegetables, but other crops could also be developed for sale in Haut-Katanga and elsewhere in the DRC, or even in neighbouring Zambia.
