Questions surround Elton's port of Dakar gas terminal project

Many questions surround the Port Autonome de Dakargas terminal project, the concession for which wasawarded to Elton Oil on 18 March in the presence of theSenegalese president Macky Sall. Where will the gascome from? How will it be transported? When will theconstruction of the infrastructure begin? Elton haspledged an investment of FCFA 70bn ($121m) but theprecise nature of the project remains unclear. Whencontacted, the Dakar-based petroleum productsdistributor stated that the liquefied natural gas (LNG)would be conveyed from the "European zone" on "shipsdesigned for the purpose". No firm date has been set forthe commencement of the works, but Elton indicatedthat they would get underway "within the next six totwelve months".
