French embassy plans major foray into health sector with help from LFHS

In the midst of the health crisis, the French Embassy in Libya, temporarily based in Tunis and led by Béatrice Le Fraper du Hellen, is planning to roll out a major health project in Libya later this year. The embassy wants to equip and rehabilitate delivery rooms in several hospitals in Tripoli, Misrata and Benghazi. For the supply of equipment, including hospital beds, incubators, and gynaecological equipment, it clearly intends to favor French companies specializing in the field. A training session for Libyan doctors is also planned and could take place in Tunis for reasons of convenience. This project is being prepared with the approval of Tripoli health minister Ehmid Bin Omar and his deputy Mohamed Haithem Issa, the real power in the ministry. But its implementation in both Tripoli and Misrata will depend largely on how the chaotic security situation evolves there. And its roll-out in eastern Libya, which is under the dissident political authority led by Abdallah Al Thani, could also be compromised.
