On 15 June, the Moroccan government suffered a setback in the action brought against it by Germany's Scholz Holding at ICSID, the World Bank's international arbitration tribunal. In response to a submission by Morocco's defence team questioning whether the institution was competent to hear the case, the president of the tribunal, Frenchman Alexis Mourre, ruled in the affirmative on 4 February. Morocco is being represented by Leila Slassi from the Moroccan law firm Afrique Advisors and by the Paris-based law firm Mayer Brown. As reported by the Moroccan news website Medias24, the Moroccan party had argued that Scholz Holding, despite relocating its headquarters outside Germany before bringing its action at the ICSID, was relying on a treaty to protect mutual investments that Morocco and Germany signed back in 2001.
