Powerful SNH and SONARA crystallize anger of English-speaking regions

On 16 July, several hundred young people from the English-speaking town of Limbé in the southwest region of Cameroon voiced their anger in the Clark Quarter district. The groups took to the streets to protest land-grabbing by French-speaking elites and the imbalanced distribution of the country's natural resources (hydrocarbons) they believe to be losing out from. Prominent figures of the crisis-prone Anglophone region seem to be essentially persona non grata within Cameroon's two state oil firms, Société nationale des hydrocarbures (SNH) and Société nationale de raffinage (SONARA). The country's only crude processing plant, run by SONARA, is located in Limbé.
