Although the 4 September ban on Total's Madagascar director Biova Agbokou leaving the country was hastily lifted two weeks later, the move did little to mend the fences between Paris and Antananarivo, which remain in a poor state despite the best efforts of French Ambassador Christophe Bouchard and President Andry Rajoelina, who met a few days earlier.
