Hotel magnate Jacob Masima goes looking for diamonds

On 25 November, Jacob Masima set up a company called Diamond Exploration Botswana. The company's creation marks a turning point in the Botswana businessman's investments, until now mainly focused on hotels. He is the founder and sole shareholder of The Wild Lodges, a company which owns three luxury lodges in leading Botswanese safari destinations and a river cruising business on the Zambezi. Masima is the owner of Diamond Exploration Botswana but the company will be managed by geologist Elvis Mosweu. Mosweu heads the Botswana operations of Australian commpany Six Sigma Metals, which has a number of copper, nickel, cobalt, platinum and lithium prospecting permits. From 2014-2016, Six Sigma ran operations on three mining sites in joint venture with public sector mining company BCL. Their partnership was brought to a standstill by BCL's liquidation in 2016 (Africa Intelligence, 28/08/18).
