In the three years since it mergedwith America’s FMC to form TechnipFMCin 2017, French oil servicesgiant Technip has lost most of itsspecialists on working in Africa.Ousted as a result of the merger, thegroup's former head of Africa, India,Europe and Russia, Nicoletta Giadrossinow sits on the board of severalfirms including oil and gas juniorCairn Energy ( AEI 787), IHS Markit,finance specialist Bain Capitaland logistics multinational Vopak. Forhis part, the former vice presidentAfrica for TechnipFMC, StéphaneSolé, has headed into consultancy.With a well-padded address book inhand, built from his experience inGhana and Mozambique, Solé left thefirm in January 2019 ( AEI 832).Technip experts tend to resurfaceat its main competitor SBM Offshore.Former chief operating officerPhilippe Barril led the way in2015 when he resigned from Technipto take up the same position atSBM Offshore. Thierry Currenti,the former managing director atTechnip's surveillance arm Cybernetix,was also hired by SBM Offshorein November 2016. Currentinow oversees the development ofthe oil and gas services firm's newmarkets with a focus on West Africa.TechnipFMC is about to undergoa new change. The company willbe split between Technip Energies,based in Paris but incorporatedin the Netherlands, and theHouston-based TechnipFMC,which will oversee the group'ssubsea activities. Just before thesechanges, Olivier Villedieu, whohad been the engineer in chargeof three TechnipFMC units workingon Total’s Kaombo project inAngola, also decided to resign andjoin SBM Offshore.
