In september 1947 I saw the third prototype Wyvern flown into Farnborough, and mentally put it in the Blackburn Firebrand class of oversized single-seat aircraft. It looked huge and ungainly, with an (Eagle) engine that appeared to have been an afterthought. Altogether not very impressive aesthetically. As was usual with a prototype naval aircraft, RAE Farnborough was to undertake its arresting proving trials, followed by a deck-landing assessment.
