Flying Down to Rio: Luck and Fun with Handley Page

This story, set in 1959-60, involves luck - because I was in the right place at the right timern- and fun - because I was able to do so many things that would simply be impossible today. I was employed by Handley Page (HP) when the company was sending its then-new twin-engined feederliner, the Dart Herald, on tours of West Africa and South America in an attempt to attract potential buyers. My job was in sales and publicity, which also meant doing all sorts of peripheral jobs, such as being the photographer, purser (not an easy assignment in Brazil before the days of credit cards, and when hotel room rates changed almost daily) and flight test observer (FTO).
