After a three-year restoration by Ezell Aviation at Breckenridge, Texas, Lockheed P-38 Lightning N25Y was due to fly at the end of February.rnOnce its test schedule is complete, N25Y will be transported to Salzburg, Austria, to join the Flying Bulls Collection, an offshoot of energy drinks company Red Bull.rnThe aircraft was previously the legendary White Lightniri, flown by Lefty Gardner of Confederate Air Force fame during 1963-2001 at countless airshows, and at the Reno air races. On June 25, 2001, while being flown by Ladd Gardner, Lefty's son, N25Y was seriously damaged in a forced landing near Greenwood, Mississippi, after thernport engine caught fire. Lefty sold the P-38 to Red Bull in January 2005, and restoration began the following month.rnOriginally built as an F-5G variant with a photo-reconnaissance nose, the machine was fitted with a fighter nose in 1947 and raced in the Thompson Trophy and Bendix races, with the name Sky Ranger.
