British european Airways was by far the largest Trident operator, taking 64 straight from the factory and operating a further six through secondhand acquisitions or takeovers. Only 48 of the 116 Tridents delivered were taken by non-UK airlines, the other significant customer being CAAC (see Exporting the Trident, page 74).
