Springbok Shackletons

The south African Air Force (SAAF) took delivery of eight Shackleton Mk 3s, the first, 1716 and 1717, beingformally handed overto No 35 Sqn SAAF on May 16,1957, at Woodford. They were then flown to St Mawgan for three-month work-up trials alongside resident Coastal Command units, who welcomed the sole Shackle-ton export customers with good-natured envy; the RAF's first MR.3s would not arrive until that August.
