Typhoon 'doctoring'

Chris Thomas contacted us to point out that the picture at the top of page 84 in the Hawker Tempest Database (Aeroplane March) - showingJN730/W2-F - is actually a "doctored" image. The original photo was taken duringJN730's time with the Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment and the 80 Sqn W2-F code letters have been added. The airframe spent its whole flying life either with Hawker on trials or at Boscombe Down. After its last trials with Hawker in March 1945 it was refurbished by the company and delivered to 20 Maintenance Unit, where it was stored for five years.
