It can be hard to find old toys in good condition, for the simple reason that their juvenile owners treated them as the playthings they were. It would have seemed incredible that they would one day achieve tens, hundreds or even thousands of pounds in the salerooms. Naturally, the more flimsy the materials used in their construction, the less likely they are to have withstood the rigours of countless playtimes. Some interesting survivors to emerge at a sale at Vectis in Stockton-on-Tees on February 19 included a "Hurricane MW3" monoplane glider, made as part of a promotion for Modern Wonder magazine in 1938. It had an aluminium fuselage with cardboard wings and was made for elastic band propulsion. It was in good, but used, condition and sold for £60.
