Wing rebuild under way on Canadian Halifax project

Major progress is being made with 57 Rescue Canada's project to reconstruct a Handley-Page Halifax, reports Richard Mallory Allnutt. The huge effort is being led by airline pilot Karl Kjarsgaard, who spearheaded the initiative to recover Halifax MkVII NA337 from a Norwegian fjord back in 1995. That aircraft is now fully restored and on public display at the National Air Force Museum of Canada in Trenton, Ontario. Not satisfied with that triumph, Karl and his team seek to further the story of the under-represented Halifax and its crews, many of whom were Canadian. They are recovering as much original material as possible from around the world, and have already begun the restoration process which will see at least one, and possibly two Halifax bombers put together as a result.
