"It is an indication of the virility of the British aircraft industry that it should have been able to assemble such a magnificent display so soon after the end of the war". That was Flight's verdict on the seventh exhibition held by the Society of British Aircraft Constructors at Radlett in 1946. Great things were expected, and the SBAC shows would chronicle developments. The initial such events from 1932 were follow-ons from the annual RAF Displays at Hendon, which featured a New Types Park of aircraft making their first public appearance. The SBAC obtained permission from the Air Ministry for this park to remain in place after the Saturday show until the Monday, when several more types were added by the society. With the end of the RAF Displays, in 1936-37 a dedicated SBAC event took place at de Havilland's Hatfield factory airfield, the last prior to hostilities.
