Several books have been published about Malta's air war, but this is slightly different. The author has used logbooks and personal papers from pilot John Mejor and Capt David Macfarlane of the freighter MV Melbourne Star. Mejor's early days were spent in Scotland until he was posted to Malta while Macfarlane, already a seasoned convoy captain, was given the Melbourne Star in 1941 to run a convoy to Malta comprising six merchantmen, a troopship and, for the final part, two battleships, the carrier HMS Ark Royal and four cruisers. All the merchantmen reached Malta despite heavy air attacks.
