MYRSKY PROJECT MOVES FORWARD

The rebuild of the sole surviving example of Finland's only indigenous fighter design of World War Two, the Valtion Lentokonetehdas (VL) Myrsky II, is now in the final stages, five years after a collaborative project was initiated by the Finnish Air Force Museum, the Finnish Aviation Museum and the Aviation Museum Society of Finland. The fuselage of the mixed-construction, Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp-powered fighter, serial MY-14, was displayed at the Finnish Air Force centenary airshow at Jyvaskyla, southern Finland on 16-17 June. It is hoped to have the machine completed during 2019, when it will be allocated to either the Finnish Air Force Museum at Tikkakoski, 14 miles north of Jyvaskyla, or the Finnish Aviation Museum near Helsinki Airport.
